The Big Apple On A Not So Big Budget - One World Trade Center

Visiting the One World Trade Center was not part of our original itinerary. We thought it might be depressing to visit the site where the twin towers once stood. I was up late watching CNN when it happened. Saw it live on cable TV when the second plane hit. When I woke up the next day, the world has changed.
One World Trade Center
The Freedom Tower or the One World Trade Center is the tallest building in the western hemisphere and 6th in the world. You can see it from a lot of places in New York. Adjacent to the building are two pools symbolizing the loss of life and the physical void left by the attacks.
South Pool of the September 11 Memorial
The names of the victims are engraved on the side of the pool.

We paid our respects to the victims with a short prayer. 16 years after the attack, the memory of the event still haunts us.
