Recently I've been seeing a lot of ads of GOMO, a new telecommunications company that promises awesome things! Some believe that GOMO is a game-changer so let's see if it's a GOMO or a NO GO.
GOMO stands for "Go Out More Often" and is available not only in the Philippines but in other countries as well such as Singapore and Thailand. GOMo doesn't have its own network and actually uses an existing network and in the Philippines GOMO's partner is Globe. This means that there should be no difference in terms of signal strength and network speed if you compare it to a regular Globe sim.
So what makes GOMO a game changer? The selling point of GOMO is its no expiry data unlike current prepaid data promos that expire in 3 days, 7 days, or a month regardless if your data allocation is fully consumed or not. Just take note that based on their terms and conditions "your sim card will expire if no paid transaction has been made within one (1) year."
One awesome feature of GOMO is the flexibility of converting your data to texts or calls. You can convert 0.2Gb or 200mb of data for either 3 mins of call or 30 text messages.
Conversion of data and reloading is done via the GOMO app which is very simple and easy to use.

Another selling point of GOMO is their data packages. For an initial sim card purchase of Php199 (from the original price of Php299), you'll get 25Gb of data. Reloading can be done via the app using GCash or credit card with only 2 choices, 25Gb of data for Php299 or 25Gb of data plus 500 texts and 100 minutes for Php499.
Comparing the data package to Globe's current prepaid promos, for Php50 you'll get 5Gb of data + unli texts to all networks which comes down to Php10 per Gb. For GOMO, it's Php299 for 25Gb which is equivalent to Php11.96 per Gb. Some are suggesting to just buy a new sim while it's on sale because for Php199 you'll get 25Gb which is only Php7.96 per Gb.
But then again for Globe prepaid wifi, you need to consume the 5Gb in 3 days and reload again. This is one of the inconvenience if you load promos with relatively short validity days.
As mentioned earlier GOMO rides on Globe's network so there really should be no difference between speedtests of the two. Any difference in speed would be the same if you test one network multiple times and get different results each time. I'm working on a video on speedtests for us to understand more what's going on when we check our internet speeds. I tried using the GOMO sim on my phone and I also tried using it on my Globe CAT7 modem.
To end, GOMO is indeed a game-changer when it comes to how you spend your money on your communication needs. The flexibility of converting data to text messages or calls is a good feature plus the fact that your data allocation does not expire. It is not however, a game changer when it comes to connection speed or network reliability because after all they are only using Globe's network and not their own.
By the way, if you do decide on purchasing a GOMO sim, you should expect delivery delays as they are using Entrego as shipping partner. I ordered mine October 19 and it arrived October 27. Original delivery date was October 22 but the rider was busy delivering other items from lazada and my GOMO sim delivery was further delayed with two more delivery attempts until it finally arrived 5 days after the first attempt.
